Question: How long does it take to make a video viewable from the web?
Answer:
  1. Shoot the video. (e.g. 1:00 hour)
  2. Play it in to the computer in individual segments. (1:15 hours)
  3. Edit and produce each segment for Modem viewers 20Kbps. (1:30 hours)
  4. Edit and produce each segment for DSL viewers 80Kbps. (1:30 hours)
  5. Create a webpage for people to view it. (0:30 hours)
  6. Upload special viewing files to web server for viewing. (2:00+ hours)
Total 'hands on' time to record and produce each hour of video is 5:45 hours, and 2:00 hours 'hands off' uploading for each hour. Now you know, when you view video, for each hour you view almost 8 hours was spent to get it to you. Currently this site contains about 30 Gigabytes of prerecorded video storage.


Question: How do you get video tape to the web?
Answer:
  1. Record the video on to tape with a camera.
  2. Read it into a high speed computer (1Gz+) through an interface card specially designed for video work.
  3. While the video is being recorded in the computer the sound is processed through an equalizer and other sound equipment.
  4. Use programs like VEDITOR or VideoWave to edit the video to specific clip lengths and add titles.
  5. Use the same programs to create web viewable video files on the computer.
  6. Using a web editor and create HTML webpages so people can click-n-view the the video clips.
  7. Upload via FTP (File Transfer Protocol) or
  8. Put the video on CD and take it to where the web server is and copy the files.


Question: If I need a copy of the original recording can I get it?
Answer: We keep all source tapes. Each Hearing, Meeting, Work Session etc are always recorded on brand new tapes. Copies source tapes are available to anyone. MPG files can be put on CD to be viewed from your PC. We hope in the near future to be able to offer DVDs of meetings. If you need a copy contact the Webmaster or Subscribe to the monthly service.
